Talk Description
The clique’, “there are no new air show accidents, just new pilots making old accidents” was attributed to the legendary air show and test pilot, Bob Hoover. But, why are we not learning from our old accidents? Because institutional memory is fleeting and accidents and incidents are forgotten by the next generation with the result that because of our fickle human nature, we continue to repeat old accidents. A brief statistical review of airshow accidents and incidents from 1908 to 2018 serves as a reminder as to the threats and challenges to the airshow community at large. “Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it”. George Santayana, 1863 - 1886. SAAsMA Conference 2020
