Talk Description
"Hepatitis has shaped the practice of medicine for centuries, from the early descriptions of jaundice outbreaks to the identification of distinct viral hepatitides in the modern era. What was once a vaguely understood cause of “icteric illness” is now recognised as a major global health burden, with hepatitis A, B and C together responsible for substantial morbidity, chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and avoidable mortality across the world. Despite remarkable advances in vaccination, diagnostics and antiviral therapy, hepatitis remains highly relevant to everyday clinical practice, particularly in settings where late presentation and missed opportunities for diagnosis still occur.

This week’s talk will revisit the hepatitis alphabet from a practical physician’s perspective. From acute presentations to chronic sequelae, and from the straightforward to the deceptively complex, “Hepatitis ABC” promises to be a timely reminder that these are conditions no internist can afford to overlook."
