Talk Description
Trauma, Diving events, Critical Care, and all invasive medical procedures can cause air/ gas embolism. This can cause minor, major or catastrophic haemodynamic and neurological events. Spontaneous recovery may happen, but resuscitation, including CPR and urgent HBO may be life saving. The international quoted statistics is 2.5 cases per 100,000 hospital procedures. The UK Intensive care guideline is useful: Intensive Care Society | Gas embolism (ics.ac.uk)
