Talk Description
Antibiotic failure is a situation where treatment with an antibiotic fails to cure a patient or clear a bacterial infection. Antibiotic resistance is not the most common reason, and before adding or changing an antibiotic, we have to ask the following questions:
1) Is it a bacterial infection?
2) Is the diagnosis and anatomical site correct?
3) Is there source control?
4) Is the organism susceptible to the antibiotic?
5) Is the antibiotic reaching adequate levels at the site of infection?
6)Is the patient's host response or severity of disease playing a role?
