Talk Description
This session will be focused on key points in managing wounds associated with Diabetes. Global guidelines form the evidence based backbone to the Wound Bed Preparation Guideline which is recommended by the Wound Healing Association of Southern Africa (WHASA) and the focus of this session is to showcase how the guideline can be implemented in practice when working with diabetics. The session will be discussing the following integral management points: 1. Treating the cause – the importance of addressing comorbidities and factors influencing wound healing in the diabetic. 2. Managing patient centered concerns – addressing the patients own values, beliefs and concerns 3. Identifying the healability of the wound – treatment direction 4. Identifying the type of wound and wound healing phases 5. Formulating a treatment plan according to TIME/DIME 6. Utilizing advance technologies.
